The Queen Of Tweets
The British Royal Family is now on Twitter. Well, not literally – the public relations people who work for the British monarchy have y opened their official Twitter account, @BritishMonarchy.
The feed will be used to keep interested parties updated on the Royal Family’s comings and goings, events where they will be present and other information on what’s going on at Buck House (that’d be Buckingham Palace, for the non-British readers).
Unfortunately, neither HRH Queen Elizabeth II nor her family will be typing tweets personally. A spokeswoman said that “The intention is that it is a news service rather than a personal voice.”
At the moment, the feed has just under five thousand followers, but since the news only broke today, that can be expected to sky-rocket soon. It includes such useful items as links to the changing of the guard, where the Earl of Wessex will be tomorrow and a gallery of pictures from the Queen’s recent reception of the new Poet Laureate (Professor Carol Ann Duffy).
Amusingly, the account is not listed a ‘Verified’ at this time and is only following three people: tennis player Andy Murray, a feed from the Prince of Wales about climate change (the Copenhagen Communiqué) and a gentleman named Paul Fright… who no one seems to know anything about and whose updates are protected.
Earlier this year, the monarchy’s web site was also updated with more video and other pretty content. The Windsors have definitely made a solid decision to move into the digital age, it seems.
